Paintings in Progress
~The Online Studio~

Welcome! Glad you stopped by. Today we begin with painting the background.

First I spread some plain water on the upper background carefully excluding the horses. Then using the same brush apply a thin wash of Raw umber on it. Remember we are working in Acrylic -the water based paints.

Then using a crumbled up piece of tissue paper  we dab on the wet paint picking out areas of light patches.

This dries out in about 5 minutes . Then using a loose, diluted mix of
1) Sap Green and Raw umber and
2) Sap Green and white
3) Sap Green and Yellow and White
we  loosely fill up these light patches with a greeny lemony colour

My Palette now has the following colors :
Sap Green, Raw Umber, Cadmium Yellow, White and Burnt Sienna

Now its time to do some careful colouring .

Following the reference picture I try to work around the light patches with a darker color of Raw Umber + Sap Green trying to create the most dark patches in the back ground.

Remember that our light patches will look bright only when the dark around them is really dark. Something like the moon standing out really bright when the night has set in fully. :)

 So with various mixes of
 Sap Green + Raw Umber,
Sap Green + Raw Umber + Burnt Sienna
Sap Green + Raw Umber + Cadmium Yellow
Burnt Sienna + Cadmium Yellow

we have finished the background in Acrylics.

We will be coming back to do the background in oil paints later.

But first we shall take care of  our horses .....untill then...
Be a Rainbow in someone's cloud .
Love.
