Amrita Sher-Gil ,
daughter  of a Punjabi  Sikh father and a Hungarian Jewish mother, painted this             painting in 1932 when she was merely 19 years old.

In the Painting ,on the left clothed in European clothes is Amrita's sister, while the partially undressed figure in the foreground is a French friend, Denise Proutaux.

She was the youngest ever artist to enter the Grand Salon in Paris where this painting earned her a Gold Medal. And the only Asian to have done so.  :)

The JOY of  reading the handwritten details from your close friend...

The JOY of writing such a letter .....

Oh ! The JOY of writing with a fountain pen :)

"The Love Letter " by Henry le Jeune

Coming from a family of talented people.....Henry  Le Jeune's father and grandfather were professional musicians, and his brothers organists at various chapels. His sister, a musician, became a photographer. Henry too had musical talents but he chose to pursue his passion in painting.

A British Painter -  entered the Royal academy of arts at 15 years of age and was associated with it all his life

"The Love Letter" ,an oil on canvas , is 145 years old.

Interestingly a famous Indian Painter Gopal Khetanchi has rendered a beautiful Indian version for us.
Whatever part of the world it is, whatever clothes we may wear, Language of Love is the same all over :)
May Life Bless you with many dear ones to love and cherish but as they say "The first one in that list should be "YOU" yourself....If we love ourselves it becomes easy to love others...
Because in the end "Its only about how much LOVE we put in "
(my post dated 4 December 2016)
So in continuation of this sentiment..let us begin with..
A Letter to Myself ...

Lots of Love ....

"The 50 Paintings" Project

Painting # 4

"Girl with a Pearl Earring " by Johannes Vermeer

A 350 year old painting...by the Dutch Painter Vermeer , known as the Master of Light, hangs in a Museum in Netherlands.

But till date no one knows who was the girl  who modeled for him.

Some guess that it was his daughter Maria...
In a novel by the same name she is fictionalized to be a servant named Greit who is hired by Vermeer to model for this piece where she wears his wife's pearl earring....

The Mystery is part of its popularity.

Also known as the Dutch Mona Lisa because of her enigmatic gaze, unknown background and bust length of the piece.

Its like she was going somewhere and just stopped to turn and look at the viewer...And she is about to say something..

What was she going to say? What was she thinking ? Her words though remain a mystery.

Sometimes the questions are more intriguing because they can't be answered...As there is no one correct answer, this painting opens up possibilities for interpretation...

I think she's saying

(Don't women say that even today :))

If you have an interpretation of your own please share...

What do you think she was about to say ?

...........Love xoxo
